Biography

Franziska Schenk is today well-known as a TV sports commentator for speed skating and Olympic Games, working for the German TV channels ARD and MDR since 1998. In her Olympic career she won the bronze medal over 500 metres at Lillehammer in 1994, placing fourth in the 1994 1,000 and 1998 500 metres. In 1997 Schenk won the Sprint World Allround and the 1,000 metres Worldcup. Her collection was completed by five national titles and four runner-up placements.

In 2000 she had a controversial photo session with her body painted only by silver color. At Mainz she successfully studied German, movie and media science, and journalism. She then became sports moderator for the German TV-channel ARD.

Personal Bests: 500 – 38.31 (1998); 1000 – 1:15.46 (1998); 1500 – 2:02.76 (1997); 3000 – 4:32.39 (1991).
