Biography

A four-time West German Champion (1966, 1968-70), Christa Schmuck celebrated her biggest success by winning the 1967 European Championship. At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, she originally finished fifth in the women’s singles event, but was awarded the silver medal upon the disqualifications of the East German sliders when they were discovered to have illegally heated their runners. At the World Championships, Schmuck was runner-up in 1970 and won a bronze medal in 1969.
