Biography

German pole vaulter Danny Ecker, son of Heide Rosendahl and basketball professional John Ecker, reached the Olympic finals in all of his three attempts. In 2000 at Sydney he placed eighth and on the next two occasions, in 2004 at Athens and 2008 at Beijing, he finished fifth. At the 1999 Indoor World Championships, and at the 2007 World Championships, Ecker won two bronze medals. At the 1998 and 2007 European Indoors he won bronze and gold respectively.

Domestically, Ecker won national titles in 2004 and 2007, and also indoor titles in 1999, 2005, and 2009. In 2007, Ecker was elected Track & Field Athlete of the Year in Germany, in what was the best year of his career. Ecker later became a personal trainer, and worked with Bayer AG in the department of corporate credit management.
