German hammer thrower Markus Esser participated in three consecutive Olympic Summer Games from 2000 at Sydney to 2008 at Beijing. He reached the finals twice and finished ninth in 2004, and tenth in 2008. He won two bronze medals, at the 2005 World Championships and 2006 Europeans. From 2006-14 he won nine consecutive German national titles.
Esser’s sports career was overshadowed by teammate Karsten Kobs for a long time until 2008. Esser later became a carer by profession, and coached the carnival dance group of KG Grün-Weiß Schlebusch.
