Nadine Kleinert-Schmitt

German shot putter Nadine Kleinert participated in four consecutive Summer Olympics from 2000 at Sydney to 2012 at London. She reached the finals on all occasions and placed eighth, third, fifth and 11th respectively. In 2004, Svetlana Krivelyova originally placed third, and after Irina Korzhanenko’s disqualification due to doping violation, Kleinert was raised to the silver medal.

But in 2012, the IOC re-tested drug samples from the Athens Olympics and Krivelyova was also disqualified for the presence of an oxandrolone metabolite, an anabolic steroid. It was decided that no bronze medal would be awarded in this event. In total, Kleinert was upgraded more than 15 times in her career due to doping violations of her competition rivals.

Kleinert won four silver medals (1999, 2001, 2007, 2009) and one bronze medal (2005) at World Championships, as well as a silver (2006) and two bronzes (2004, 2010) at the Indoor Worlds. Her greatest moment, aside from her Olympic silver medal, came in 2012 when she won the European Championships. She had previously won silver at the 2000 European Indoors.

Kleinert was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 2005, Germany’s highest sports award. In 2009, she was also awarded the Rudolf-Harbig-Gedächtnispreis by the German Athletics Federation. Domestically, Kleinert won the national title in 1998, 2000-01, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012, and the indoor title in 1998-2001, 2004, 2010 and 2012, By profession, she became involved in the parcel delivery business, and also worked as a shot-putting coach.
