German hammer thrower Kirsten Münchow came to prominence in 1998 when she won the bronze medal at the European Championships. She then went on to win the bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2000 and 2001, Münchow also won the German national title. She was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
Münchow trained as a store window designer and later physiotherapy. Meanwhile, she founded her own physiotherapist practice at Porta Westfalica. From 2002-06 she was married to non-Olympian teammate Holger Klose.
