Australian baseball player Adam Burton began his career as a junior in the mid-1980s. Burton had natural talent, soon signing a professional contract with Baltimore Orioles in the US whilst still a teenager. He later played for the Atlanta Braves before returning to Australia where he joined the Melbourne Reds in the Australian Baseball League (ABL). In the 1997–98 season with the team he set a league record when he scored 21 home runs.
Burton also represented the Australian national team, winning gold at the 1999 Intercontinental Cup. The following year he competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, although he suffered with an ankle injury during the tournament. In 2001 he also played at the Baseball World Cup in Taiwan. Following his retirement Burton remained involved in the sport as a coach for upcoming young players.
