Ernst Alm

Ernst Alm was a Swedish cross-country skier who represented IFK Norsjö. Alm was born on a farm in Hemmingen and was one of 10 children. When he was 15-years-old he began to work on the family farm and in the forest during the winter. Alm developed a talent for skiing from an early age and was part of the national team that won the 60 kilometres cross-country race when he was 21.

In 1922 Alm won the first edition of the Vasaloppet, an annual cross-country race held on the first Sunday of March in Sweden. His skiing club could not afford to send any competitors, but the newspaper Västerbottens-Kuriren were able to pay expenses for three members of IFK Norsjö to attend. His teammate and fellow Olympian Oskar Lindberg finished the race in second place.

Alm competed in the 50 kilometres at the 1924 Chamonix Olympics where he finished in sixth place. Also in 1924 Alm became the Swedish champion in the 60 kilometres. The following year Alm won gold, silver, and bronze at the Swedish championships in the 20, 50, and 30 kilometres races respectively.
