Noted for popularizing biathlon in West Germany, Peter Angerer won Olympic medals at three consecutive Games. His major titles include the Olympic gold in the 20 km event at the 1984 Games, and the 1983 overall World Cup, while he was runner-up in 1984 and 1986. Beside this he won the Olympic silver medal in the 10 km sprint in 1984 and two relay bronze medals in 1980 and 1984. In 1988, he added another silver medal with the relay and carried the German flag at the Opening Ceremony. At the 1986 World Championships, Angerer was disqualified for having taken anabolic steroids. He only received a six-month suspension as the drug was contained in an anti-flu medication provided by his doctor. In 1984 he won the media prize BAMBI. He later owned a cross-country skiing school at Ruhpolding. He was also active in sports marketing, mainly in snowboarding with the International Skiing Federation.
