Martin Beck was a member of the West German ice hockey team that finished sixth in the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. He played for EV Füssen, one of the best West German ice hockey clubs after World War II. With Füssen he won seven consecutive national titles 1953-59. The finest moment of his career was in finishing second to Sweden in the 1953 World Championship final, which was West Germany’s best ever finish at the Worlds. Beck later coached second league club Augsburger EV and led them into the Bundesliga. He won 57 international caps and was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame. After his sporting career he studied medicine and subsequently had his own dental practice.
