Trygve Berge was the 1954 Norwegian national alpine skiing downhill champion and, two years later, was selected to represent his country at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Games. There, he was disqualified in the downhill. He retired from active competition shortly thereafter and moved to the United States, where in 1961 he founded the Breckenridge Ski Resort and the Norway Haus Ski Shop in Colorado. The former became one of the most popular ski resorts in the United States, and his dedication to developing the surrounding area earned him induction into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame in 1999. He served as the ski director at the resort for many years.
