Biography

Born in Melbourne in 1936, Peter Brockhoff was an early pioneer of the Australian Alpine skiing team at the Olympics. In 1960 Brockhoff represented his country at the Squaw Valley Games, competing in the downhill, slalom, and the giant slalom. His best result came in the slalom where he managed to place 30th out of the 63 starters. He did not fare so well in the other two events; finishing 57th in the downhill and being disqualified in the giant slalom.

In 1964 Brockhoff competed at the Innsbruck Olympics where he was scheduled to participate in the same three events. During a training run for the downhill, however, his teammate Ross Milne was tragically killed in an accident when he lost control and struck a tree. As a result, Brockhoff did not start in the downhill, but did race in the slalom and giant slalom, finishing 42nd and 62nd, respectively. His niece Belle represented Australia in snowboarding at three Olympics.
