Biography

During his playing career Stig Carlsson earned himself the nickname of Bonden (“The Farmer”) from his day job away from the ice rink. Carlsson was strong ice hockey player who represented Södertälje SK from 1945 to 1959, winning the Swedish championship in 1953 and 1956. He was also a regular with the national team where he played in 135 matches, scoring 85 goals. At the 1951 World Ice Hockey Championships in Paris he was part of the squad that won the gold medal. He played at multiple international tournaments and competitions including the Olympics in St. Moritz and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1948 and 1956, respectively. Following his retirement as a player Carlsson coached several teams during the 1960s.
