Biography

Rudi Cerne was among the best male figure skaters in West Germany during the 1980s. He had his best international result with a fourth place at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games in the men’s event. The same year he also earned his only international medal, winning silver at the Budapest Europeans. Cerne also came in fifth at the 1984 Worlds. Domestically, he finished with six podiums, two golds in 1978 and 1980, two silvers in 1981-82, and finally two bronzes in 1983-84.

Cerne turned professional with Holiday on Ice and then started training as a figure skating coach, but retired after being more successful as a TV presenter, first in sports programmes such as ZDF Sportreportage and Aktuelles Sportstudio. Eventually he became a TV journalist, regularly moderating Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst, a very prominent show presenting unsolved crimes. He also regularly presented on the German sports show Sportspersons of the Year.
