Biography

Mieczysław Chmura was a Polish ice hockey player who represented Podhale Nowy Targ from 1955 to 1964 in almost 180 matches. With the team Chmura finished as a runner-up twice in the league (1963–64), along with third place on four occasions (1958, 1960–62). From 1956 to 1959 he also made 17 appearances for the national team, including playing at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics and the 1959 Ice Hockey World Championships in Czechoslovakia. Chmura retired as a player in 1966 and became the coach of the national team from 1970 to 1973. He was only 46-years-old when he died in April 1980 from an embolism.
