Marcel Couttet came from a sporting family. He was the younger brother of [Henri Couttet], who played hockey at the 1920 and 1924 Winter Olympics, and Denis Couttet, who competed in Nordic skiing at the 1924 Chamonix Winter Olympics. A left winger, Marcel played for Chamonix HC from 1931-44 and returned for one more season in 1951/52, and skated at the 1937 World Championships. Couttet also competed in speedskating and skiing.
