Biography

Italian ski jumper Bruno Da Col competed either side of World War II, winning multiple national titles and participating at two Olympic Games. Da Col was a four-time Italian ski jump champion, winning titles in 1936, 1939, 1942, and 1947, along with bronze in 1943 and 1949. At the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics he finished 37th in the large hill event. The same year as the Olympics he became the first Italian to jump more than 100 metres, earning him the gold medal for athletic prowess, which was bestowed upon him by Mussolini. Da Col returned to the Olympics after World War II where he finished 18th in the large hill at the 1948 St. Mortiz Games. Following an accident during a competition his ski jumping career came to an end in 1951, with him then becoming an Alpine skiing coach.
