A member of the youth teams of US Monti Pallidi di Moena, in 1961 he was runner-up in the combined Italian junior championships held in Roccaraso. In 1962 he won the Italian junior championship in Nordic combined and was second in ski jumping. In 1964, at only 20, he took part at the Innsbruck Olympics and the following year joined Fiamme Oro of Moena, with whom he won the Italian Nordic combined title in Asiago.
In 1968 Damolin was the first athlete from the Trentino Region to win the Italian jumping championship. In 1969 he again won the Italian title in the combined, adding a bronze in ski jumping, and in 1970 finished fifth in Nordic combined at the World Championships.
After retiring from competition, Damolin served as coach of the Swiss Nordic combined team from 1979 to 1991, coaching at three Winter Olympics, and leading Hippolyt Kempf to the individual gold medal in Calgary.
