Biography

An electrical welder at the Grangemouth dockyard, Tom Dawson was a member of the Falkirk Speed Skating Club and was the Scottish half-mile champion in 1963, 1966, and 1970. He was runner-up to Nottingham’s Geoff Stockdale for the British half-mile title in 1964.

Dawson went to the 1964 Winter Olympics at Innsbruck and, thanks to sponsorship from a Scottish businessman, he went to Finland for coaching in the months leading up to The Games. Prior to going to Innsbruck, Dawson competed in that year´s European Championships, but finished 31st and last in the all-round competition

Dawson continued racing competitively well into the 1970s and was a reserve for the Scotland team for the international against England in 1974.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.2 (1964); 1500 – 2:21.3 (1964); 5000 – 8:29.1 (1964).
