Guy Dugdale came from an aristocratic background, his maternal grandfather was the Earl of Warwick, and was wealthy enough to regularly spend his winters in Switzerland. He was a member of Freddie McEvoy’s British 4-man bob in 1936 but was not part of McEvoy’s world championship medal winning crew in the years between the Garmisch Olympics and the outbreak of war. He served in the Wiltshire Regiment of the British Army during the Second World War.
Dugdale’s Olympic medal was sold at auction for £15,000 shortly before the start of the 2012 London Olympics.
