A two-time Olympian in biathlon, Christian Dumont also won two medals at the 1990 World Biathlon Championships, with silver in the relay and bronze in the team event. In January 1989, along with Gilles Marguet, Thierry Gerbier and Hervé Flandin, he won the first World Cup relay event for France.
After he stopped competing, Dumont became director of the French biathlon program, leading them to many successes. Considered a pioneer of French biathlon, he was also coordinator of the French biathlon circuits. Dumont died fairly young from a heart attack in August 2021, while he was out for a bike ride with his wife.
