Biography

Ákos Elekfy started his sports career as a youth speed skater in 1939, and in 1940 broke age group records and finished sixth in the Hungarian senior championship. This promising career was unfortunately interrupted by World War II.

Elekfy reappeared on the ice rinks in 1947, when he finished fourth in the Hungarian championship as a BKE competitor, and he won two bronze medals at the College World Championship in Davos. The following year he took part in the St. Moritz Olympics, where he finished 34th in the 500m and 29th in the 5000m. He finished skating in 1954 and then competed in ship and airplane modeling for Bp-i Dózsa. In 1958 he won a silver medal at the European Championship. Between 1958 and 1960 he was also a three-time Hungarian champion. As his father was a famous painter, he also had talent as a sculptor.
