Edward Fender was a luge slider who competed at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. Fender won a silver medal in luge doubles at the 1963 World Championships. From 1978-83 Fender coached the Polish national team. He competed for various clubs, including MKS Bielsko-Biała, LZS Mikuszowice, SKS Start Bielsko-Biała and BBTS Włókniarz Bielsko-Biała.
Fender later had a difficult life. Initially he lost feeling in his toes, but the problem progressed, and he became paralyzed below the waist from a polyneuroradiculopathy, a chronic autoimmune disease. He spent the last 10+ years of his life in a wheelchair.
