Biography

Andrzej Fiedor was born in the small Polish village of Koniówka near the border with Slovakia just after the end of World War II. Working as both a farmer and a carpenter, Fiedor was also a talented skier, becoming the Junior World Champion in the biathlon in the 3 x 7.5 kilometres relay in 1967. This earned him a place on the Polish Olympic team for the 1968 Grenoble Games where he just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the 4 × 7.5 kilometres relay. That same year Fiedor became the Polish champion in the 3 x 7.5 kilometres relay, winning a second national title in 1969. He competed at three editions of the Biathlon World Championships in the first half of the 1970s, as well as the 20 kilometres event at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics. After his sporting career Fiedor moved to the United States and lived in Illinois.
