Biography

Willi Forrer was a frequent representative for Switzerland on the international alpine skiing scene during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He first gained significant attention at the 1958 World Championships, where he missed a medal by 0.4 seconds in the downhill. He won overall Swiss championship titles in 1959 and 1960, which led him to represent his country at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. There, he was fourth again in the downhill, while placing 20th in the giant slalom and being disqualified in the slalom.

After finishing fourth once again in the downhill at the 1962 World Championships, as well as 11th in the giant slalom, Forrer was banned from competition for two years for criticizing the Swiss Ski Association. He then moved to Canada and remained there until 2008, when he moved back to Switzerland.
