Herbert Fritzenwenger was a West German biathlete and cross-country skier. He participated in the 1988 Calgary Winter Games and finished 17th in the 20 km biathlon event. He was also a member of the 4x10 km cross-country relay, placing seventh, and, over 50 km cross country, finished 33rd. At the World Biathlon Championships he won a team silver in 1989 and biathlon relay bronze medals in 1985 and 1987.
After his sporting career ended in 1991, Fritzenwenger took over the management of the National High Performance Center for biathlon in Ruhpolding. As a member, and president, of the organising committee, he was jointly responsible for the development of biathlon until 2002. In 1992, he co-founded the World Biathlon Team Challenge held in the stadium of FC Schalke 04. He also managed several biathlon events around the world. Fritzenwenger was mainly involved in developing TV formats for biathlon events with German TV channels ARD and ZDF. He was also well-known as a biathlon co-commentator for ZDF.
