Stefan Gaisreiter competed from the late 1960s through the 1970s. In addition to his Olympic bronze medal in the four-man event at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics, he also had six podium finishes at the World Championships. In the four-man he was World Champion in 1969 and 1979 and third in 1971 and 1973, while in the two-man he was runner-up in 1979 and third in 1977. Gaisreiter was also European Champion in the four-man in 1973 and 1976, and runner-up in the two-man at the 1976 Europeans. In 1979 he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
