Walter Glaß was often called Walter Glaß I, as there was an identically named cross-country runner in that era, though they were not related. As a close friend of the actor and adventurer Luis Trenker, Glaß appeared with him in a movie as a skier. He was the first successful skier from Klingenthal which resulted in the placing of the German Championship 1929 to this small town. At the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics he placed 15th in the nordic combined. He was not related to the other East German ski jumpers named Glaß, although they were all living in the same town.
