Defender Bruno Guttowski was a member of the West German ice hockey team that finished sixth in the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. He played for Krefelder EV from 1951-55, winning the West German Championship in 1952. He later played for Mannheimer ERC until 1964 and became coach between 1959-61, before taking up the same position from 1969-72. The finest moment of Guttowski’s career was in finishing second to Sweden in the 1953 World Championship final, which was West Germany’s best ever finish at the Worlds. In total he won 58 international caps, scoring five goals. In 1988 he was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
