Masahiro Hayama was the most experienced Japanese defenseman at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics and on their European tour. In addition to the two games at the Olympics, he played an additional 13 friendlies for Japan. Hayama was a student at the Manchuria Medical University in Mukden (now Shenyang) and received a doctorate in 1944 with a thesis on “Physiological studies on expiratory temperature.”
