Kurt Hennrich competed at the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics as an Alpine skier, placing seventh in downhill. He first started skiing as a 3-year-old and won his first race in a slalom in Klínovec in 1948, winning the junior regional title. He also competed in ski jumping as a youth, although in the early 1950s he decided to focus on Alpine events. In 1953 Hennrich won the Czechoslovakian junior title, and in 1955 won the senior slalom national championship.
