Biography

Hansi, son of Ernst Hinterseer, was an Austrian alpine skier who participated in the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. He placed 14th in the giant slalom and could not finish the slalom event. At World Championships he won the silver medal in the 1974 giant slalom; the previous year he won the overall world cup in giant slalom. In total, Hinterseer won six world cup races. Domestically, he was Austrian giant slalom champion in 1973 and slalom champion in 1976. Hinterseer retired after the 1978 season and skied with the US Pro-Ski Tour, winning the downhill titles in 1982 and 1983. He then turned to commenting on skiing events with the Austrian TV channel ORF.

Hinterseer later became far better known as a folk musician, actor, and TV presenter. He became particularly well-known through the German television show Musikantenstadl, and later he had his own folk music shows on several German and Austrian television channels. Hinterseer has won numerous awards for his achievements in the folk music genre (Crown of Folk Music from 1998-2007, Echo 2004, Golden Tuning Fork 2006). His nephew Lukas Hinterseer became a professional footballer in the German Bundesliga and 2nd division.
