Egon Hirt was a West German Alpine skier who specialized in technical events such as slalom and giant slalom. He won three national championships in the giant slalom in 1981, 1982, and 1984. At the 1984 Winter Olympics at Sarajevo he finished 13th and did not finish the slalom. One year later he narrowly missed the podium at the Bormio Worlds, finishing fourth in giant slalom. Although he was one of Germany’s best slalom and giant slalom skiers his career was overshadowed by his teammate Markus Wasmeier. Hirt later worked as a ski instructor and coach.
