Biography

In the 1980s Martin Hole won two Norwegian titles in cross-country skiing in addition to finishing on the podium at a World Cup event. Hole first came to prominence when he won bronze at the 1979 Junior World Championships in the 3 × 5 km relay event. He won his first medal at the Norwegian Skiing Championships in 1983 with silver in the 50 km. Two years later he won silver in the relay, bronze in the 50 km, and his first gold with victory in the 15 km. He continued his good form in 1986 with two more bronze medals along with his second gold, this time in the 30 km. He finished his national medal haul with two more bronze medals, both in the 50 km, in 1987 and 1988. Hole had his only podium finish at the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in the 1985–86 season when he finished third in the 30 km in Falun, Sweden in March 1986. Two years later he competed in the 30 km event at the 1988 Calgary Olympics where he finished 31st.
