Dumitru Hubert

Together with his airforce companion Alexandru Papană, Dumitru Hubert competed in bobsleigh. In 1932, they missed out on a medal at the Olympics, finishing in fourth place. At the 1933 World Championships in Schreiberhau, Germany, Papană and Hubert drove to the title, winning the first of only two Romanian world titles in the sport (as of 2008). The following year, the duo placed third at the World Championships, while their team mate Frim piloted to the title. Later that year, Hubert’s life came to an abrupt end. At an air show in Braşov, captain Hubert’s plane crashed in front of some 10,000 spectators, and he was killed instantly.
