Biography

Carl Richard Johansson competed in the men’s and pairs skating events. At the first Olympic skating competitions in London in 1908 he won the men’s silver medal to complete the all-Swedish winners’ rostrum behind Ulrich Salchow and ahead of Per Thorén. Johansson was a four-time Swedish Champion – 1904 and 1908-10. Between 1905 and 1914 he competed in four World Championships and one European Championships without winning a medal, placing fourth at the 1905 and 1909 World Championships. He won his only World Championship medal in the 1909 pairs event with Gertrud Ström in his native Stockholm. His other placements at major international championships were: 1911 World Championships (5th), 1914 World Championships (9th), 1913 European Championships (5th).
