Biography

Jouko Jokinen was a Finnish speed skater who represented Lapin Lukko in Rovaniemi. Regarded as one of the best speed skaters in Finland, Jokinen won multiple medals at the Finnish championships and set several national records during the 1960s. He specialised in the 500 metres, winning four national titles in the event (1960–61, 1965–66) and breaking the national record twice in 1965. At the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics he crashed during the 500 metres to finish 42nd. In the 1,500 metres, however, he had a much better performance and narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. The following year he came fourth again, this time in the 500 metres at the World Championships. Jokinen returned to the Olympics for the 1964 Innsbruck Games where he came 19th in the 1,500 metres.

Personal Bests: 500 – 41.1 (1967); 1500 – 2:11.8 (1963); 5000 – 8:14.4 (1967); 10000 – 17:28.8 (1963).
