In his early life Borislav Yordanov won a scholarship to study at the German University of Physical Education in Berlin. Yordanov was a keen sportsman who specialised in tennis and skiing. His passion in the latter earned him a place on the Bulgarian Olympic team for the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Games, where he competed in the combined Alpine skiing event. After the downhill element he was just over a minute behind the leader but failed to finish in the slalom. Yordanov was also a skilled mountaineer and ascended several peaks in the Alps over 4,000 metres. In 1942 he was a co-founder of the National Sports Academy in Sofia and later became a member of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
