Biography

Pauls Kaņeps was a Latvian cross-country skier who was active during the 1930s. Kaņeps’ preferred distance in the sport was 18 kilometres, with him winning four national titles (1935, 1937–39). He was selected to compete at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics but finished 50th out of the 75 starters. He also finished 13th in the 4 × 10 kilometres relay. Kaņeps graduated from the Faculty of Forestry of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and became a forester. In 1944 he moved to Germany, working as a forester until 1950, before leaving Europe to start a new life in the United States. He then worked for the Illinois State Road Department for the next 25 years before retiring.
