Masatatsu Kitazawa was the only active member of the Japanese team who was not affiliated with one of the major universities. The forward played for Ōji Eagles, a team that is located in Kitazawa’s hometown of Tomakomai on the island of Hokkaido, owned by the Ōji Paper Company. He was on the squad for both games that Japan played at the 1936 Winter Games. In 1968 he wrote an article about “Memories of the first appearance at Olympic Winter Games” contained in a book published by the Organizing Committee of the 1968 Olympic Winter Games.
