Hailing from Basel, Rudolf Kleiner never skated competitively outside of Switzerland. Despite this, he competed in the Olympics Games and European Championships. The 1948 Games, held in St. Moritz, were his first international tournament, and he placed in the back of the field in both the 500 and 1,500 m. He did somewhat better the following year, when he placed in the middle of the field in the European Championships, ranking 18th but failing to make the final distance. From 1948-50, Kleiner won three consecutive Swiss allround titles. He retired from speed skating in 1952.
Personal Bests: 500 – 46.2 (1950); 1500 – 2:29.2 (1950); 5000 – 8:57.6 (1949).
