Hans Koschka won his only international medal at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Games in the relay together with Hansjörg Knauthe, Dieter Speer and Joachim Meischner, finishing behind the Soviet Union and Finland. Four years earlier he placed 10th in the 20 km and sixth in the relay. In 1970 he won a World Championships bronze medal in the relay. Koschka won five GDR National titles, in the 1971 20 km individually and four relay golds in 1967 and 1969-71, adding a silver in the 1969 20 km.
