Max Kröckel received 1926 the Staatsmedaille of Thuringia for his exemplary skiing performances. The same year he came in third at the Austrian Championships in the nordic combined, and was second in the normal hill. During World War I he taught soldiers in skiing. At the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics he placed 14th in the nordic combined. By profession he was a glass blower.
