Ski jumper Kurt Körner came 12th on the normal hill at the 1936 Garmisch Partenkirchen Winter Olympics. In 1935 he finished 15th at the Nordic World Championships. Körner was probably killed during World War II, and was officially declared dead in 1953 with date of death 31 July 1949. In his hometown Klingenthal, the ski jump was named in his honour in 1959, but ten years later it fell into disrepair.
