Biography

Maurice Lafforgue was a French Alpine skier who represented the Luchon club in the Pyrenees. Lafforgue competed in the combined event at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics, finishing 14th in the downhill and 10th in the slalom to finish 11th overall. A year later he won two silvers at the World Championships in Chamonix when he finished second in both the downhill and the combined. His twin brother René was also selected to compete in the combined event at the 1936 Games but did not start.

Lafforgue married the Swedish skier May Nilsson, who later competed at the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics. They had twin daughters, Ingrid, who became the World slalom champion in 1970, and Britt, who competed in Alpine skiing at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics. Two of Maurice’s grandchildren also competed in the freestyle skiing moguls at the Olympics, with Julien participating at the 1998 Nagano Games and Cédric taking part at the 2002 Salt Lake Games.
