During the 1980s Serbian boxer Đorđe Petronijević was a multiple Yugoslavian champion. Petronijević won bronze in the welterweight class at the 1987 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Torino. This earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1988 Seoul Games where he lost to the eventual gold medallist Robert Wangila.
