Biography

Defender Göran Lindblom played most of his career from 1972-90 in Skellefteå AIK, except the last two seasons, when he played with Malå IF. Lindblom won a Swedish title with Skellefteå in 1978 and for three seasons (1977-78, 1978-79 and 1980-81) was the highest scoring defenseman at the Swedish Championships, which is a record that he shares with Magnus Johansson. Lindblom was drafted by the St. Louis Blues of the NHL in 1976, but never played in North America.

Lindblom earned 157 caps with the Swedish national team. He won Olympic bronze in 1984, World and European Championships silvers in 1981 and European Championships bronzes in 1978 and 1982. After finishing his sporting career, Lindblom worked as an ice hockey coach, with Malå IF and Clemensnäs HC and from 1997-2000 and since 2012 has been assistant coach of the Swedish national junior team. Beginning in 2000, he also worked as a consultant to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. Lindblom was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #113 in ice hockey.
