Abel Ballif served as President of the Touring Club of France from 1894-1918, and in 1906, received the first Olympic Cup ever awarded, as a representative of the club. Ballif was co-opted onto the IOC in February 1911 and served less than two years, leaving in January 1913, and did not attend either IOC Session during his mandate. Ballif became a Grand Officer of the Legion d’Honneur in 1918. In 1924 he left to live in a monastery, where he lived out his days, dying in 1934.
