Sir Francis Curtis-Bennett played rugby and cricket at Tonbridge School, and later devoted himself to sports administration, serving in over 60 organizations. He worked as a civil servant, and was Founder and Chairman of the Civil Service Sports Council. He also founded the National Association of Boys’ Clubs in 1925 and served for over 25 years in various posts with the National Playing Fields Association. In recognition of his public service he was honored with the CVO (Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) in 1926 and KCVO (Knight of the Royal Victorian Order) in 1932. Sir Francis was co-opted onto the IOC in June 1933, and resigned in 1950, serving as an Honorary Member for the seven months before he died at the Savoy Hotel in London.
