Craig Reedie

Craig Reedie was an international level badminton player in his youth, representing Great Britain from 1962-70. He earned a law degree from the University of Glasgow in 1964 and later became a partner in a financial advisory firm.

His career in sports administration also started in badminton as the secretary of the Scottish Badminton Union from 1964-74, and he then served as the President from 1977-79. He was President of the International Badminton Federation (IBF – later the World Badminton Federation) from 1981-84 and served as treasurer of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) from 1990-92. Reedie was chair of the British Olympic Association from 1992-2005. He was on the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and was President of WADA from 2014-19. He was also a Director of the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Reedie joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1994, served on the Executive Board from 2009-12, and was a vice-president of the IOC from 2012-16. He also served on the following commissions: Marketing (1995-2014), Coordination for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad Athens 2004 (1998-2004), IOC 2000 (1999), Evaluation for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad 2008 (2001), Coordination for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Beijing 2008 (2002-08), Olympic Programme (2006-14), Ethics (2007-14), Evaluation of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in 2016 (2008-09), Communications (2015-17), and the Olympic Programme Commission (2017-).

For his efforts in the world of sports Reedie received numerous awards and honors, including Honorary Doctorates at the University of Glasgow (2001), St. Andrews University (2005), Brunel University (2009), University of Lincoln (2010), University of the West of Scotland (2012), the Glasgow Caledonian University (2013), and the University of Stirling in 2014.
